The City of Hesperia is considering the formation of a Community Facilities District to assist with the funding of Hesperia Golf Course Improvements, maintenance and ongoing operations. The 18-hole 211 acre golf course opened in 1957 and was privately owned and operated until 2010 when the former Hesperia Community Redevelopment Agency purchased it to prevent the property from becoming blighted and run-down. Ownership of the golf course was transferred to the City upon dissolution of the Redevelopment Agency. Public outreach conducted by the City, including public meetings, a survey and a feasibility study, found overwhelming community support to continue operations of the golf course and thus the City negotiated an agreement with the Hesperia Recreation and Park District to maintain and operate the golf course. The City's General Fund has effectively subsidized management and operational deficits incurred by the Rec and Park District in the range of $135,000 to $189,000 per year. The agreement expired in September 2019. Click here to learn more about the background, current status and future plans for Hesperia Golf Course improvements.
Important: Formation of a Community Facilities District must be approved by the affected voters. The City can't form a Community Facilities District without voter approval.
